SCIR Foundation™

Restoring identity. Rebuilding lives. Rewriting what’s possible after incarceration.

Our Mission

SCIR FOUNDATION is a nonprofit corporation registered in the State of Iowa (EIN 42‑3313232) who's mission is to restore identity, strengthen protective factors, reduce criminogenic risk, and support long‑term stability for individuals returning from incarceration — through trauma‑responsive, evidence‑aligned, human‑centered reentry practices.

Who We Serve

The SCIR Foundation exists for people stepping back into the world after incarceration — individuals carrying trauma, history, and stories that rarely fit neatly into case files.

We support justice‑impacted individuals, families, and communities by helping people rebuild identity, stability, and long‑term direction.

Reentry is not just about compliance. It’s about returning to yourself, not just returning to society.

Why the SCIR Foundation Exists

Most reentry systems focus on external requirements: housing, employment, appointments, compliance. But the barriers that derail reentry are internal:

  • unresolved trauma
  • dysregulation
  • criminogenic needs
  • distorted thinking patterns
  • unstable identity
  • fractured relationships
  • lack of clarity or direction

The SCIR Foundation addresses these internal barriers first — because behavior change begins inside the person, not inside the system.

Our Approach

We use a trauma‑responsive, clarity‑driven, evidence‑aligned model that strengthens:

  • identity restoration
  • somatic and emotional regulation
  • pro‑social skill development
  • structured decision‑making
  • accountability practices
  • protective factors
  • long‑term stability

Our work is grounded in principles consistent with:

  • Risk‑Need‑Responsivity (RNR)
  • Core Correctional Practices (CCP)
  • cognitive‑behavioral intervention strategies
  • criminogenic needs, drivers, and factors
  • dynamic risk reduction
  • responsivity‑aligned engagement

SCIR’s evidence‑aligned practices draw from established cognitive‑behavioral and trauma‑responsive methodologies, integrated into a human‑centered framework that supports identity restoration, stability, and long‑term behavior change.

SCIR Reentry Pathway™

The SCIR Foundation’s core reintegration framework.

The SCIR Reentry Pathway helps justice‑impacted individuals rebuild stability, identity, and long‑term direction. Rooted in trauma‑responsive practice and lived experience, the pathway provides accessible tools that strengthen personal regulation, reduce recidivism risk, and support healthier family and community relationships.

Participants learn practical, real‑world strategies for navigating:

  • housing
  • employment
  • communication
  • emotional regulation
  • decision‑making
  • relationship repair
  • accountability
  • long‑term planning

The pathway addresses both dynamic criminogenic factors and protective factors, helping individuals build a foundation strong enough to sustain reentry beyond supervision.
